Class Experience
This class will be taught with weekly, step-by-step videos that I will post to the classroom on Mondays. Students will take pictures of their work and post them in the weekly "showcase" thread in the classroom. This is how they will turn in their assignments. They will also be able to see each others work here. Each week there will also be a progress post where students can ask questions and I will respond either in writing or with a demonstration video. Students can also use both threads to communicate with each other. Please note that some students may need help with some aspects, namely threading the needle tying it off as well as cutting out the pieces. Some students this age simply do not have the fine motor skills needed. Week one: We will learn to thread a needle and tie it off. We will also learn a straight stitch and a whip stitch to practice which we will be using for the rest of the class. For Practice, we will be drawing out the shape of two pumpkins and sewing around them to practice our stitches. Week one supplies: One piece of felt, any color, a needle, thread, any color, scissors, a marker. Week two: We will be making a pumpkin pincushion. Week two supplies: One piece of orange felt, one piece of green felt, thread color of your choice, needle, uncooked rice, marker. Weeks three and four: We will be making A mini Jack-o-lantern pillow. Weeks three and four supplies: Two pieces of orange felt, one piece of black, one piece of green, a needle, thread, a pencil, and a marker.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Gabrielle, I started teaching sewing lessons when I was a homeschool senior. I taught classes at a local home school group and discovered I had a passion for teaching. When I was 19 I discovered I was most likely autistic and was able to get an official diagnosis at 21. For me, this was a revelation and explained so much. It meant I was able to seek out others like me and was a huge game-changer for me.
For over 10 years now I have been teaching in different capacities and working with children with different disabilities and differences. I have been an in-home caregiver for a physically disabled child, a preschool teacher, a teacher's aid, a tutor and have been teaching online since January 2020. I also have an Associates' degree in special education.
I am proud to be autistic. This doesn't mean I don't have struggles but I firmly believe that we all have strengths and weaknesses. I strive to give all of my students a safe and welcoming place. All of my classes are inclusive which means students of all abilities are welcome. If your student needs any accommodations please let me know and we will work together to ensure the best possible class experience.
