Halloween Fact or Opinion~Building Reading Comprehension
In this one time class, the students will work on reading comprehension using FACT and OPINION around the theme of Halloween.

In this one time class, the students will create a game piece that says fact or opinion. They will then be given a statement related to Halloween. If a student feels comfortable, they can read the statement to the group. The students will take turns reading, if they want to practice their reading skills. The students will hold up the word FACT, if they can prove the statement is true. The students will hold up the word OPINION if they think the statement is just an idea, thought or belief and not all people feel that way. We will discuss why they chose the word they did and debate and discuss. We will end the class with the students writing/or telling a statement for the rest of the learners to discuss, if time permits.

~Students will use listening skills to listen for facts or opinions in a sentence.
~Student will use writing skills when creating a fact or opinion.
~Student will use communication skills to interact with other students.

Supply List
Students will need a piece of white paper, markers, crayons or colored pencils.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!
