Halloween Drawing Club
Class experience
In this ongoing Halloween art class, students will learn to draw a scarecrow in a cornfield, a haunted house and pumpkin patch, human skull, and Frankenstein's monster (using pencil and colored pencil). Please note that since this is an ongoing course, students can enroll or withdraw at any time. Each scheduled meeting will be spent drawing ONE picture and learning different pencil and/or colored pencil techniques. Students do not need to be enrolled in previous weeks of this class to be...
Scarecrow and Cornfield (colored pencil) 1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a scarecrow in a cornfield. 2. Students will learn techniques for blending, applying, and layering colored pencil. 3. Students will learn techniques to create depth in their art. 4. Students will learn techniques to burnish colored pencil (blend). 5. Students will learn techniques to draw straw texture, using colored pencil. Haunted House and Pumpkin Patch (done with pencil, but if students want they can use charcoal) 1. Students will learn techniques to sketch a balanced landscape, using positive and negative space. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn shading techniques to create a foreground, mid-ground, and background, using pencil. 4. Students will learn techniques to create a spooky atmosphere in their drawing, using line. Human Skull (done with pencil, but if students want they can use charcoal) 1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a human skull. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn techniques to create gradients, using pencil. 4. Students will learn techniques to draw smooth bone texture, using pencil. 5. Students will learn a few facts about the anatomy of a human skull. Frankenstein's Monster (colored pencil) 1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a contour drawing (outline) of Frankenstein's monster. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn techniques to create a semi-realistic human portrait, using colored pencil. 4. Students will learn techniques to create emphasis on certain facial features of Frankenstein's monster, using colored pencil. 5. Students will learn a few facts about the history of Frankenstein's monster.
***I will be using Prismacolor colored pencils, but students can use what they have. For the last class, students are welcome to come dressed in a Halloween costume. While masks are welcome, students will be required to remove any masks for identification during the first five minutes of class to meet Outschool's safety and privacy policies. If the teacher deems a costume inappropriate, your student may be asked to remove costume for a more learner-friendly option. Please be aware that this course uses materials that may be harmful to your student if used inappropriately. If you think your student may use any class materials inappropriately and/or potentially cause harm, please provide adult supervision for your student.
