Description

Class Experience

Learn special techniques to make your cupcakes seriously awesome for this special holiday.
I love decorating cakes and cupcakes for all kinds of events and occasions. I have taken many of the courses offered around town, plus a very engaging class at the Culinary Institute of America. I have created and decorated countless cakes for friends, family, business occasions, weddings, baby showers, birthdays, ect. It's fun to do and is a nice creative outlet for kids to learn to master.
Please have frosting already colored- white, yellow, orange, red, green, and black
Things you will need to have on hand for this class: Medium consistency frosting (store bought or homemade) Multiple colors of frosting (I suggest using gel food colors)- yellow, green, orange, white, red, and black....if your red and black are not the shade you are looking for, I suggest you add some cocoa powder to the mix and see if that helps to darken your colors 6 Piping bags (disposable or re-usable) with some of each color of frosting, BE SURE TO HAVE A COUPLER ON EACH OF YOUR BAGS so that we can change out the tips for all the different creations we'll be making Tips- various round tips (one smallish and one medium- #3,4, or 5 and #6, 7, or 8), #199 or #21, # 67 or #352 (leaf tip), #104, #233 Toothpicks A dozen cupcakes (not absolutely necessary, but certainly welcome and encouraged...practice of these designs can also take place on some parchment) A spatula Spoons An extra bowl Parchment paper Extra piping bags and/or ziploc bags
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Seeing as we are working in the kitchen with potential hazards. Note that there is no baking taking place during class so stoves/burners/microwaves/ect. should not be in use. Frosting should be made prior to class and under the supervision of an adult with hair pulled back to prevent injuries if using a mixer. The use of a pair of scissors for a very small and specific part of class does take place. Supervision may be required for this step. Knives are not needed for this activity.

If purchasing frosting please note the ingredients listed on the back. Some may contain milk, nuts, or gluten products. You may refer to my recipe listed in the homework section if you'd like to make your own. Water or other liquid flavorings may be substituted for the dairy listed. Also, crisco/shortening may be substituted for the butter listed. If you need a different type of recipe for this class that works great for piping please let me know and I'd be happy to send it to you via email.
