🎃 Halloween Coding Class: Code a Game in Scratch to Collect Candy! 🍬 In this exciting lesson, students will code a game where they try to catch falling candy using Scratch, the fun block-based programming language from MIT. Designed for ages 6-11, this class welcomes all levels of coding experience! Students will learn: To think like a game designer! 🕹️ How to code characters that switch costumes and follow the mouse pointer 🐱👓 Using loops and cloning to create endless falling candy 🍭 Adding sounds to make their game pop! 🎶 Advanced students will track their score with variables and code a timer ⏱️ With a maximum of 6 students, this class is highly interactive! The teacher will guide each student to create a project they’ll be proud of while answering questions and providing support along the way. Here’s what your student can expect: Welcome + Introductions (5 minutes) 🎉 Scratch Setup + Login (5 minutes) 💻 Halloween Trivia (10 minutes) 🦇 Code a Halloween-themed arcade game in Scratch! (about 60 minutes) 🎮 Student Project Showcase + Say Goodbye (10 minutes) 👋 Note for Parents: Your student will need: Access to a laptop or desktop with Zoom and screen-sharing enabled An internet connection of 3mbs+ A working speaker, microphone, and webcam (compatible with recent Windows and Mac OS) Important: iPads are not recommended. Please have an adult available for the first 5 minutes of class to assist with setup and troubleshooting. Let’s have a spook-tacular time coding! 🎃👻
Learning Goals
Students will design and code a fun game in Scratch to catch falling candy, learning skills in character movement to follow the mouse, using loops and cloning for endless candy, incorporating sound effects, and tracking scores with variables.

Parental Guidance
Students will use Scratch to participate in class. Students must access the Scratch account using a laptop or a computer in class (no smartphone or tablets). Students will use their own Scratch account to code while following instructions from the teacher. Students may continue to use their Scratch account outside of class.

Your student will need: - Access to a laptop or desktop computer with Zoom installed and screen-sharing enabled - An internet connection of 3mbs+ - A working speaker, microphone and webcam - all Windows and Mac operating systems of the past five years are supported Note: iPads are not recommended, but reach out to our team if you have any questions. At Coco Coders we teach children between the age of 6-14 how to code at our Live Online Clubs and Camps through exciting themed content such as architecture, fashion and conservation to name a few. Depending on age, we teach using a variety of programs and languages including Scratch, JavaScript and CoSpaces.
