It is highly advised to read the poem "The Raven" written by Edgar Allan Poe before class begins so students can get a better understanding of the literary device we will be learning in class, however this is not 100 % mandatory.
Assessment
We will play an interactive game to assess our newly found knowledge on this week's literary device.

Welcome to our one time Halloween themed pen and ink drawing class for poetry lovers, where we will dive deeply into the haunted world of Edgar Allan Poe. In this class, we will focus primarily on some poetic literary devices before learning how to draw a realistic raven of our own. 

This is a course that is perfect for beginning artists and specializes using step by step drawing techniques to help us create realistic shadow, space and depth. These step by step demonstrations are meant to help blossoming artists perfect their skills. All artists are welcome to participate in this class, no matter their skill level.  I will personally guide you each step of the way and will be eagerly waiting to answer your questions.  

The first half of class will begin with an ice breaker, we will then study a famous poem and play an interactive game to assess what we have learned. After game time, we will then draw and shade the raven under the guidance of a certified art educator. 

Each student should leave this class with a stronger sense of confidence when drawing.  A variety of all different types of learners are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to draw a raven for fall using basic shapes and simple lines
Students will learn how to shade using various shading techniques
Students will learn how to identify various literary devices and how to use them in writing

Other Details

Learning Needs
Those with anxiety have the option to turn off their cameras after attendance has been taken and use the chat box/reactions to participate. All directions are given in step by step format & the pace of the class is determined by the learner
Parental Guidance
There may be times where we will be using YouTube videos via screen share to help us get an animated version of the poem being featured in class. Other times we may use YouTube videos to help us understand a literary device more clearly. However, there will be no need to sign up for any programs in order to participate.
Pre-Requisites
Being comfortable with drawing basic shapes is essential for this class. Each learner may find this class more enjoyable if they also have had some experience drawing.
