In any language, adjectives are important elements of a sentence. Using adjectives when we write makes our writing more meaningful, while giving the reader a fuller picture of our topic. Challenging ourselves to add a variety of adjectives to our vocabulary improves our ability to communicate with others. In this one-time class, students will review the definition of an adjective. They will then work together to brainstorm adjectives that might describe things at Halloween. The teacher will also suggest and define appropriate adjectives. Finally, the students will be challenged to gather certain Halloween related objects from around their house and briefly share those items with their classmates.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to define an adjective and be able to list some adjectives relating to Halloween. Students will also practice speaking and social skills while taking turns sharing in a group setting.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Maura Cohen. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and just about twenty years teaching experience, in both traditional classrooms and online teaching environments. I have taught children of all ages, from preschool through high school. I was a certified public school teacher for years in both second and fourth grade before staying home to teach and raise my own three children. In recent years, I discovered online teaching and I have loved the flexibility it provides ever since. I am a very friendly, energetic teacher who loves to have fun while helping my students get excited about working together and discovering new things. I love to teach and I love to travel. I have been to many European countries, and I have lived for several years in both Japan and Italy. When I am not in the classroom or traveling, I love spending time with my daughter and two sons, reading, making crafts, and eating my husband's amazing food. (I am very lucky because he is a professional chef!) I hope to see your child in my classroom soon! We will chat about topics they enjoy, practice social skills and teamwork, and have lots of fun!
