US Grade 8 - 11
In this one time class, students will learn about forms of Japanese poetry including the haiku, renga, mondo, and more. Students will use their senses to explore the world around them. They will experience writing various forms of poetry, both independently and collaboratively. By the end of class, students will have several poems written. All students will be provided with a PDF of handouts explaining the different forms of poetry so they can continue to experiment with them on their own after class!

Supply List
A PDF handout will be provided. Students should come to class with pen and paper as well as 1-3 "natural" items (such as a pinecone, rock, jar of sand, feather, etc).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have been teaching this particular class for nearly 20 years to students ranging in age from 10 years old to adults. Students have appreciated the way it encourages them to slow down, explore the world around them in new ways, and be creative.
