In my upcoming 45-minute online class, "The Art of Haiku Poetry," students will delve into the captivating world of Haiku. The course is structured to provide an immersive experience, starting with an insightful lecture on the origin of Haiku. We'll explore its unique structure, the art of syllable recognition, and the nuances of wordplay. Our teaching approach is centered around active learning, where students will not only listen but actively participate in discussions. The class will be enriched with beautiful examples of Haiku and engaging slides to enhance the learning experience. A significant focus of the class is on interaction and creativity. Students will have the opportunity to create their own Haikus, engage with each other through an online messaging platform, and share their creations with the group. This course is designed to be both educational and interactive, fostering a dynamic learning environment where students can explore and express their poetic talents.
Learning Goals
In this "Art of Haiku Poetry" class, students will achieve more than just learning to create Haikus. The primary learning goals extend to enhancing their overall command of the English language. Students will develop a keen eye for syllable structure and rhythm, skills vital for effective communication and eloquent writing in any context. The exploration of wordplay and poetic techniques will sharpen their cognitive abilities, fostering creativity and critical thinking. Through understanding the historical and cultural significance of Haiku, students will gain a broader perspective on linguistic expression and cultural diversity. By the end of the 45-minute session, they will not only be able to compose their own Haikus but also apply these enhanced language skills in various aspects of their academic and personal expression.
