Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Intermediate Level
In this fun and interactive Spanish Conversation Club, learners will practice speaking Spanish in a relaxed, encouraging environment. The goal is to help learners become more confident and comfortable using Spanish through real-life conversations, games, and creative activities.

**What will be taught?**
Learners will build vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and develop conversational skills in Spanish. We’ll focus on everyday language and expressions useful in real-life settings, encouraging students to speak as much as possible.

**What topics will you cover?**
Each week, we’ll explore a new topic such as:
- Greetings and introductions
- Family and friends
- Food and favorite meals
- Animals and pets
- Hobbies and sports
- Travel and places
- Weather and seasons
- School and daily routines
We’ll also include cultural elements, such as traditions, music, or holidays from Spanish-speaking countries.

**How is your class structured?**
Each class will follow a consistent and engaging format:
1. **Warm-up activity** to review past material and get students speaking
2. **Vocabulary and phrases** introduction based on the week’s theme
3. **Interactive games, role-playing, and storytelling** to practice speaking
4. **Student-led discussion** or question prompts to encourage expression
5. **Wrap-up with review** and preview of the next class

**How will you teach?**
I teach using a communicative and student-centered approach. I’ll guide conversations, model correct pronunciation, and gently correct mistakes to support growth. The class is immersive, so we’ll use mostly Spanish—with plenty of visual aids, gestures, and repetition to support understanding.

**What's your teaching style?**
My style is energetic, positive, and encouraging. I create a safe and playful space where learners feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. I adapt to each learner’s level and interests to keep them engaged and motivated.

**How much will learners get to interact with you?**
This class is all about interaction! Students will speak directly with me and with each other throughout the session. We’ll do very little lecturing—most of our time will be spent in conversation, games, and group discussion. I make sure every learner has time to speak and feel seen and heard.

This class is designed to be fun, safe, and age-appropriate for learners. We will not be covering any upsetting or sensitive topics. We may occasionally use short video clips (less than 2 minutes) from YouTube to enhance cultural understanding or introduce authentic Spanish dialogue. All video content will be previewed and age-appropriate (rated G or equivalent). No additional safety precautions are needed. If learners wish to bring a notebook or whiteboard to practice writing words or phrases, that is encouraged but optional.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
¡Hola! I'm Dolores, a bilingual and bicultural educator with a deep love for language, culture, and helping kids grow in confidence.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in Spanish from the University of Arizona. I grew up in Mexico, where I attended school from 1st grade through high school, giving me fluency in both Spanish and English, along with a strong cultural foundation in both languages.

I’ve taught Spanish to children in a variety of settings for over 10 years, including:

Homeschool co-ops, where I taught Spanish, art, and world geography to elementary and middle school students

Private tutoring sessions focused on Spanish conversation and vocabulary

After-school programs and camps

Online ESL teaching, working with international students to build conversation skills and confidence

I also homeschooled my three children for several years, designing engaging, hands-on curriculum tailored to their learning styles. Currently, I teach and substitute in private school settings, and I’m passionate about helping kids learn in a fun, warm, and welcoming environment.

In all my classes, I focus on making students feel seen, supported, and excited to participate. My goal is to create a low-pressure space where learners want to speak, laugh, and explore the Spanish language together.
