Gymnastics Fun Handstand, Cartwheel, Front & Back Rolls Camp

Three day 50 minute one week spring camp of cartwheel, handstands, and front & back rolls with a fun craft on the last day.

Class Experience

The student will learn by watching a live demonstration via the instructor. Student will perform step by step progressions of the movement of  transfer of weight from hands to feet and executing proper form in a gymnastics . The instructor will then monitor each student perform the movement (correcting as needed) answering and asking questions to the student to ensure body movements are understood.
There will be a fun warm-up game the second day of camp and the third day of camp their will be a craft at the end of class.

Class time is structured with a warm-up and then drills to execute the skill properly. 

The topics that will be covered in camp:
Cartwheel:
*Cartwheel Shapes
*Transfer of weight between hands & feet
*Using 1 hula hoop to learn the side to side motion
*Using 2 hula  hoops to learn the the side to side motion in a cartwheel
*Lunge Pose
*Using chair, stacked pillows, or stool to gain height in the cartwheel
*Head position
*Using hula hoop and yoga blocks to get the legs higher and more of the cartwheel shape

Handstands:
All the basics of a headstand to handstand are covered so student can understand what needs to happen in order to handstand balance.

Front Roll and Back Roll Drills:
*Log Roll
*Egg Roll
*Straight body line
*Squat
*Head position
*Rolling on upper back & not the head
*Tuck ending then progressing to standing with no hands
*Pizza Hands
*Rolling in a tuck
*How to push into hands in a back roll

Learning Goals

Learning Skills and drills to improve or master cartwheel, handstand, forward roll and drills for backward roll.  A fun craft on the last day of camp.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Risk of injury if students are not performing skills correctly. Adult supervision and assistance may be needed. Please make sure proper safety precautions are taken. For example, make sure student is not performing skills next to furniture and has proper matting required for class. This is a risky class because the student does not have a coach at home to work with them on proper form and technique and the potential for injury exists. Adult supervision(adult present during the class) and skills may need to be modified according to skill level, skill, and strength of each student.

Supply List:

*Stuffed Animal (longer stuffed animal about 6-9 inches in length)
*Yoga mat, gymnastics mat or 4-8 bed pillows
*Couch pillows 2-4
*2 medium hula hoops
*Stool 
*Dining room chair
*1-2 yoga blocks
*open wall space
*One Sock 
*Couch

Craft Supply List (Turkey Hat):  Printable Template that will be uploaded the first day of camp.  *Cardstock *Scissors *Glue *Stapler or Scotch Tape

Please have gymnast in proper gymnastics attire. 
Girls:  Leotard, gymnastics shorts, or leggings
Boys: T-shirt and basketball shorts or sweatpants
Hair pulled back and no jewelry.
