Parental Guidance
Both the historic facts and song lyrics contain sexual and campy elements. Several of the songs are full of strong innuendo about sex acts. The play's story also features strong, empowered women and conversations about surviving and their personal impact on history. Both history and the play discuss divorce, accusations of incest and infidelity, death from childbirth, and overall mistreatment of women by society (including imprisonment and execution). During the class, I will discuss facts about the context of history during the reign of Henry VIII, when the role of women in society was very different than today.
