Is your learner needing practice with elementary-level words beyond grade 1? Do you find that your learner is guessing at words? Is your learner reading three and four-letter words, but struggling with longer words? I use the science of reading to teach strategies that allow learners to learn how to decode new words on their own. Learners will understand how to read common letter patterns, vowel teams, end times, and digraphs. Learners will improve their reading of words from the Dolch reading list for third-grade students. Learners will practice reading common words at the third-grade reading level.

Play-Dough dots, Small erasers, toys, or tokens (about penny size) Any of 1-3 will work for writing: 1. Whiteboard and marker. 2. Teacher-created paper placed in a plastic folder (so that the writing can be wiped off) and marker 3. Teacher or adult created paper and a pencil. Optional: Pop-its
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Small tokens such as erasers, coins, Play-Dough, or toys are a way for learners to mark each sound that they hear in a word. Adult guidance may be necessary as these items can be choking hazards. Learners and family members should be alerted to the fact that they are only to be used in the learner's area and will always remain on the table. These small items are not to be ingested. Learners will have the option of using a private game link for a teacher made review game on Kahoot! The private link is only available to learners currently enrolled for the current week. Learners do not need to provide any personal information other than a first name, nickname, or initial to play the game.
