US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this two time class, students will become scientists! Students will be completing a Science experiment where they will be investigating what happens to a gummy bear when placed in different liquids. Class 1: -Students will introduce themselves to the other learners while answering a question of the day. -Students will be introduced to the Gummy Bear. We will discuss what they look like by describing the gummy bears characteristics. Students will also observe the materials we are using before completing our experiment. -Students will make a prediction before completing the experiment by drawing and/or writing. Students will be provided with a sentence starter if needed. Students will be provided a worksheet before the class to print. If students are unable to print the sheet, teacher will give an alternative. -Students will prepare their materials to complete their experiment. They can use cups or bowls to complete this experiment. We will be using 4 different liquids. -When students are not in class, please make sure that the cups or bowls are stored somewhere out of reach and safe so that students can observe them the next class period. Class 2: -Students will share and observe what happened to the gummy bears. -We will compare our gummy bears to a gummy bear that has not been placed in a solution. -Students will record their findings on their sheet of paper. -If there is time after class, students will complete a gummy bear directed drawing. If learners are able to, they are welcome to bring their own materials to complete the Science experiment with me. Learners are also able to come to class and watch the experiment. There is no experience needed to complete this fun Science experiment!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Courtney Smith. I am a Second Grade teacher in Howard County Maryland! I previously taught Kindergarten and first grade before moving back to Second Grade. In past summers, I have enjoyed being a camp counselor where I worked with students from the ages 5 to 10. I am so excited to be working on Outschool to share my love of teaching with other students around the world.
I went to Hood College where I graduated in 2015 with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. In May 2023 I received my Master's Degree to become a Reading Specialist and ESOL teacher.
I think that it is really important to teach kids in a way that is fun! I love to make learning fun so that students are actively engaged in what they are working on. I love creating hands on activities so that students can build, create, or manipulate what they are learning.
When I am not teaching on Outschool or in the classroom, I love spending time with my family, three dogs, and friends! I love going on adventures and traveling such as going to the beach or camping! I am a big Disney lover! I love all things Disney!
