I'll give students something to practice for the next lesson each time we meet. How long it takes really depends on the student's level of playing, what they are learning, and how fast they want to progress. Students who are more advanced and seeking to progress at a faster rate might practice 1.5-2 hours a day; whereas some younger beginner students may only practice for an hour a day. 1 hour, 5 days a week is the minimum I suggest to see improvement.Assessment
If a student chooses to sign up for continuous lessons, I evaluate them based on individual improvement. Each lesson, I will give students skills to practice for the next lesson. Once a student has learned a skill, I'll teach them what's next. I ask my students to practice consistently because that is how you improve. If a student practices but isn't able to master a new skill in a week, that is completely okay and normal. In music, everyone has skills that come more easily to them or that are more difficult for them. This is the advantage of individual lessons, each student get's to move at their own pace! For parents, if you have a student who needs accountability and would like to receive assessments from me on their progress, if they are practicing, etc., please let me know and I am happy to do so! I can't force students to practice, but I'm happy to establish good communication with parents to help my students succeed :) IMPORTANT Students who consistently choose to not put in basic effort to progress, or who are regularly rude, will be removed from the class at the teacher's discretion. I love teaching, and it's not fun for me if a student is uninterested or severely unmotivated.Class Experience
🎸Hi, I'm Emma and I'm super passionate about playing guitar and all kinds of music! My favorite style of music is classic rock, and I am open to teaching any style a student is interested in. Please message me if you don't see a lesson time that works for you! I may have other availability that isn't listed. ⭐️I accept beginner through advanced students and teach both electric and acoustic guitar ⭐️ Teaching Philosophy My lessons are practical application focused. The songs we learn are selected to prepare students to be competent musicians who are able to adapt to different band and performance settings, improvise, write their own music, and thrive in a professional setting. Lesson topics - Building a well rounded chord vocabulary - Understanding scales and how to use them - Improvisation - building towards playing guitar solos - Creativity - how to make a song your own and adapt to different music settings - Music theory - Guitar tone These goals are accomplished by learning songs! My teaching philosophy ⭐️Students learn at their own pace ⭐️Teaching style is centered around developing a love for music, by learning material that interests the student ⭐️Instilling confidence in my students ⭐️Helping students become well rounded musicians by teaching a variety of styles; learning to play by ear and by reading music What you'll receive 🤘🏻35 minute weekly, personalized guitar lessons 🤘🏻Lesson materials posted to the classroom feed after every lesson (chord charts, music notation, recordings, etc). 🤘🏻The option to message me whenever with questions during the week. Making sure my students understand the material is very important to me! What to expect in class 🎸I strive to create a relaxed class environment. In my experience, this kind of positive environment is the most effective for learning! 🎸I encourage my students to try new things to build confidence as a part of the learning process. In my classroom, mistakes are welcome because that's how we learn! 🎸I give students material to practice each week and will evaluate their progress at the beginning of each lesson. I prefer informal, weekly evaluation because it allows each student to learn at their own pace. Class expectations ⭐️Come to every class with your guitar tuned (see 'materials' section) ⭐️Fingernails need to be cut short enough to press down on the strings with the fingertips- no exceptions ⭐️Come to class with a positive attitude, ready to learn ⭐️Practice weekly and to see improvement. Each student's success depends on what they are willing to put in. I am not responsible for students who choose to ignore class expectations and disregard my instructions, which are aimed at helping them succeed. Excited to see you in class! Feel free to message me with any questions 😊 ⭐️ Note about enrollment!! I kindly ask that parents pick a class time 24h in advance when enrolling with me for the first time. I'm not always at my computer refreshing my feed, and this helps to make sure I don't miss a last minute enrollment, if i happen to be away from my computer. If you prefer a different lesson time, but have an excited learner who wants to enroll the next day, we can absolutely make a schedule change later on :) Refund Policy - Full refunds are offered for 24h notice that a student cannot attend class. - Refunds are not offered for missed classes without 24h notice. - Reschedules are not currently being offered due to the teacher's schedule being full. If you give the teacher 24h notice, a reschedule may be possible depending on availability.
Learning Goals
Depends on the student. I ask students to practice each week for a minimum of 1 hour a day for five days a week. The goal is to practice the skills we work on in each lesson and to keep improving!
