Description
Class Experience
The student will learn some guitar songs and techniques that are appropriate for their level of playing. They will hold the guitar correctly and be able to strum with a steady beat. Students will be able to play some songs, at their playing level. Depending on the student's age and level, they will learn how to read chord diagrams and play the basic acoustic guitar chords. Depending on the age and level of the student, we may do a simple improvisation, using a five note scale. The student will have more confidence about playing music and learning guitar.
I have been an Outschool teacher since May 2020. I have 20+ years experience, as a music teacher and professional musician. I have taught piano, electric keyboard, guitar, and ukelele, in both the classroom and private settings. I was head of the music department at a private high school in Maryland. I taught private piano and guitar lessons at a guitar shop, for 5 years, in addition to my own private students in my studio. I have a bachelor's degree in music education, from Towson University, plus graduate studies in music education.
No homework is required. If we learn any songs, depending on the student's level, I will post the song sheets in the classroom.
guitar guitartuna app or online tuner or electronic guitar tuner
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
informal assessment
20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will send you a link for the GuitarTuna online guitar tuner. This is the tuner that I recommend. It is also available as a free app for your phone. There is no account needed for this tuner. I will sometimes play a song for the student, using youtube on the zoom screen share. This will be to let them hear how the song goes, so they can more easily learn the song.
I will occasionally play a song on youtube, so that the student can hear how the song goes. I will send a link for guitartuna, which is the online tuner that I recommend.
