Description
Class Experience
a fun but systematic approach to instrumental technique. learn fundamental tools like scales, chords and basic songs and combine them to play the music you love. a combination of learning by ear, call and response and basic music reading will be covered. All levels and abilities will be encouraged and challenged. students will gain a firm understanding and proper technique to start them playing any kind of music. we will have fun while building musical ideas and breaking down tricky parts in the music.
Classical conservatory training in instrumental performance and music theory, years traveling and studying with traditional Master Musicians and Artists, performing and teaching nationally and internationally to students of all ages and abilities for over 20 years with The Old Town School of Folk Music, Columbia College Chicago, Urban Gateways, Northwestern University, and Chicago Public Schools among many others. daily practice will be encouraged. 20-45 minutes a day depending on age and ability level
your instrument: guitar, banjo, ukelele, mandolin, any percussion instrument (sticks/practice pad, snare drum, jembe, congas, bongos, cajon, etc.) . should be a working, tunable, instrument, not a toy.
regular evaluation, both self and teacher directed , will keep us on track with personal goals and progress. questions and connections will be encouraged and valuable.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
