This course will teach new students the basics on getting started with guitar and the confidence to keep practicing. Week 1 - Students will learn how to tune the guitar. They will practice pushing down strings and playing clean notes. We will creatively play individual notes to make it fun and learn a simple two string song. Week 2 - Students will begin learning chord shapes and practice playing them cleanly. We will practice a simple strumming pattern with one chord. We will practice switching chords and playing them cleanly. Week 3 - Students will continue to practice simple strumming patterns while switching between chords cleanly. We will practice a simple two-three chord song. The focus is song timing and counting. Week 4 We combine all of the knowledge from the previous weeks to strum a whole song. The students will work on their timing, counting, rhythm, strumming, and playing notes cleanly.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Grand Valley State University
I teach music classes for the ukulele, guitar, and harmonica. I teach classes about writing, debating, and creating logical arguments without fallacies. I have a small farm and live in a yurt in western Colorado. My wife, Brooke VanDyke, is an excellent ukulele teacher on Outschool as well.
I enjoy connecting with each student and adapting my teaching style to best fit his or her needs.
