Class Experience

This 45-minute class covers the basics of bathing, blow drying vs. air drying, nail clipping, parasite prevention and treatment, and ear cleaning long haired guinea pigs. We will cover some basic handling for safe and effective grooming.
*I will teach both with a PowerPoint AND with live demonstration. Due to noise and time factors, we will not fully blow-dry animals in class.
*This is a HANDS ON class! Please read the supply list and be prepared. If your learner does NOT have a guinea pig, that is okay. I do recommend bringing a plush toy to practice the handling techniques.
*The learners will share their animals with one another via the Zoom chat, however the focus is on learning grooming skills.
*No prior experience is necessary, but if a child is frightened of their pet, it would be best for an adult to assist so that neither the child (bite) nor pet (dropped) is injured. Let's build positive experiences!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I've been raising guinea pigs (cavies) for over 30 years. My specialty is long coated cavies. My animals have won numerous awards both locally and nationally at ACBA/ARBA sanctioned shows. I am currently vice-president of North Carolina Cavy Breeders Association, and a member in good standing of the ACBA and ARBA (guinea pig and rabbit clubs). I also worked for a professional show dog handler for 5 years and have groomed a side variety of animals.
