The age range is only a guide. *** You do NOT have to complete any other classes to take this class. Each class we will read a new book. The books will be guided reading leveled readers from levels, D, E, F, G. We will also, reread previous texts, learn and review sight words (focusing on sounding out the words), discuss comprehension questions, complete word study activities (phonics skills and syllable types), and engage in guided writing. Learners will also read to the group, answer...
Students will improve in reading phonics, sight words, and fluency.
I love reading and I am so happy to help new readers love it too! I have a Masters in Reading Education and many years experience as a Reading Specialist in public schools and as a private tutor. I also have experience as Director of a preschool program and Head Preschool Teacher.
Additional reading practice will be assigned as needed.
Materials: Paper and pencil is sufficient, but learners may enjoy a dry erase marker and board (try the dollar store). Plus, markers are easier for me to see when learners hold up their work. Printer and ability to print PDF files
Learners will be asked to make sounds, read words and sentences. Learners will be asked discussion style comprehension questions and are expected to participate. Teacher will adjust instruction in response to ongoing observation- based assessment.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
