In this ongoing reading class, beginning readers will work on rhyming, letter sounds, word parts, comprehension and building a reading vocabulary. The students will be engaged while developing a strong reading foundation.

Beginner Level
In this ongoing, small guided reading group, the students will work on beginning reading skills. The students will develop a strong reading foundation. Each lesson will begin with a focus on rhyming activities. Some of the activities will include erase a rhyming word, and/or a rhyming song with picture cards. The students will then participate in word work ("If you know -og, you can spell hog.") which will also include letters (phonics) and letter sound (phonemic awareness) activities. The...~The students will practice identifying letters and making the letter sounds. ~The students will identify words that rhyme and words that do not rhyme. ~Students will create new words using word parts. ~Students will use their creative skills while working with new vocabulary words. ~Students will use reading skills to read leveled books. ~Students will demonstrate a love of reading.
~Learners will need white paper, a pencil, and crayons or colored pencils.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
