Class Experience

Every week, students will arrive in class with an object that other students will have to guess. There will be a theme for each week. The student must choose their item before class and keep the object hidden until the end of each game. This is a fun and interactive class that also works on social skills, turn taking and showing interest in others. A list of questions will be available for those who need inspiration.
When it's your child's turn, he or she will answer questions asked by other students. This will practice asking questions in French. Your child will answer with a complete sentence, also practicing sentence structure. This will continue until someone guesses the object or for three questions each. When someone guesses the object or if no one guesses after each person has asked three questions, your learner will show his or her object to the class and explain what it is.
I encourage the students to use complete sentences to communicate with the other students and with myself in French as much as possible. If the child is struggling, I will ask the child to explain in English and then I will ask him or her to repeat in French in order to practice vocabulary and conversation skills.
I use fun games to increase the participation in those who are shy to use their French conversation skills.
Lots of praise is given during the class to make students feel proud of their efforts.
These are the weekly themes. Themes will be mentioned every week in the classroom to remind students and to advise new students.

I have been a teacher for a French school board for 23 years. I have taught everything from jk to grade 6 and I was the art teacher from grades jk to grade 8. For the last 9 years I have been the special education teacher for students grades 2 to 6. My students have autism and working on social skills and communication is very important. I welcome special education students to my classes at all times. Inclusion is a priority for me.
