All reading will occur during session times, but students are welcome to "read ahead" if they wish to do so.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
This on-going reading series will help students grow a love for stories with an interactive reading of selected books by Roald Dahl! A NEW BOOK EACH WEEK! During each session, students will listen to a dramatic reading of that week's selected book. Students will discuss themes, characters, settings, and conflict with other learners, and discuss their expectations for upcoming chapters. As learners listen-along with each tale, we will talk about important plot developments and how those developments effect the arc of the story. Classes are designed to be fun and entertaining, allowing young readers to immerse themselves fully into the stories and focus their energies on the development of crucial comprehension skills. Increased listening and reading comprehension has been proven to increase student abilities in both language arts and the sciences by granting students access to a wider array of cognitive reasoning skills developed through "reading for entertainment." This class focuses on harboring a love for reading by allowing students to develop a relationship with their reading material through social interaction, and the comparison of literature to their current knowledge and interests. The more students are allowed to "play" with the ideas within the stories, the faster their understanding and development of essential comprehension will occur. During each session, students will be given multiple opportunities to discuss their ideas with other learners. Summer Schedule: Week of July 10~: James and the Giant Peach Week of August 7~: Matilda Week of September 4~: The BFG Week of September 18~: Fantastic Mr. Fox
