We will have an informal, interactive question and answer discussion, at the end of our class.Class Experience
In this one-time class, students will learn about body changes that they can expect to happen or that they may already be experiencing. Students will understand that these predictable changes are normal and part of the process of developing from a young girl into a woman. The class will be divided into three segments: First, we will discuss the female reproductive system, and I will use the same model of the female body that I have used in many middle school health classes. Next, we will have a relevant discussion of the monthly hormonal events that take place, while describing an egg's journey from the ovary, through the Fallopian tube and into the uterus. Finally, we will have an informative and interactive discussion of what having a period is all about, and we will discuss basic hygiene options. An informal question & answer session will follow. Before class, I will distribute a summary of our lesson so that students can review the highlights of our class, with multiple choice questions that they can complete on their own.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the female reproductive system and what menstruation is all about.
