Class Experience

Getting ready to read? This course will provide your child with the foundational skills needed to get ready to read. This is an ongoing course and will focus on developing a future reader. Phonemic Awareness is important for children to learn to read. In this course, students will be introduced to rhyming and sounds. They will learn how to manipulate sounds as we work through a variety of skills. This class involves a lot of repeating. The teacher will introduce the skill, sounds and words, students will repeat. We will complete an activity at the end of the class to reinforce the skills. The activity will vary between turn-taking games, identification, and matching. This is a preschool class, preschoolers are active and hands-on, your child may be asked to stand up, sit down, and move around depending on what we are working on. Additionally, they may need a writing utensil and paper.

We will use a nursery rhyme and a variety of words each week. The skills will increase in difficulty but also will be reviewed. Your child can enroll in this ongoing course at any time. I look forward to seeing your child in my class. This class is developed for preschool and soon-to-be kindergarten students.

This course will be once a week. Each week we will be doing a different rhyme, see the list of nursery rhymes below. We will review letter names and sounds.

-Old McDonald, Little Miss Muffet, One Two Buckle My Shoe, Old Mother Hubbard, Jack and Jill, Humpty Dumpty........
