Growing herbs indoors is a great way to ease into food gardening, expand your growing skills, and/or just spice up your cooking! In this class Ms. Brekke will take learners through all the steps needed to select, plant, and grow indoor herbs. We'll discuss needed space and equipment, how to decide which herbs to grow, and the ongoing care needs of a few popular herbs. Ms. Brekke will also do a short harvesting demonstration and discuss using fresh herbs in drinks and food. Class will...
- Students will learn about the general physical needs of herbs (light, water, soil). - Students will learn about the basic equipment needed to keep herbs indoors. - Students will learn about several herbs that are easy to grow indoors. - Students will learn the basics of harvesting herbs.
While not required, some students may find it helpful to have a writing implement and paper to take notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All herbs covered during class are generally considered safe but are potential allergens for those with food allergies and have potential safety concerns if consumed above recommended levels. We will not discuss any herbs that are not generally considered safe for consumption as food or drink.
