Class Experience

Students will review and master the key concepts for AP Biology in order to successfully complete their exam in the Spring.
While I have been a Middle School Science and Math teacher for the past 4 years, I have always been interested in teaching/tutoring AP Biology. In high school, biology was one of my favorite classes because it just made sense to me. In college, I took a wide array of biology courses including Introductory Biology, Genetics, Neurobiology, Immunology, Developmental Biology, Evolution, Animal Behavior, and Biochemistry. In graduate school, where I earned my Master's in Neuroscience, I deepened my knowledge of biology even further by taking a set of courses focused on the biology of the brain that included Cellular Neuroscience, Systems Neuroscience, and Cognitive Neuroscience. Furthermore, I spent several years conducting original research on the retina of the human eye, trying to understand the biological processes that help us see. I intend to create an AP Biology course that will impart the knowledge I gained during my studies in college and graduate school while presenting it in an easy to understand manner.
There is no official homework for this class. However, students should spend about 1-2 hours of their own time reviewing the material we discussed in class and practicing with their flash cards.
While not required, I would recommend an AP Biology Exam Review Book (Princeton's, Barron's, Ciff's Notes, etc.) to practice multiple choice and free response questions.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will use the website to create flash cards. This is free for anyone to use.
