Class Experience
During this 9 week course students will create 3 new pieces of art to add to their portfolios. We will discuss elements of art, the creative process, and art being created today. Class will be conducted through videos by me, the instructor, project assignments, and check-ins. Before each assignment students will be challenged to analyze and explore a handful of artworks to not only get inspired but gain a deeper understanding of visual principles. This will be done through video and slides. The students will be asked to answer a handful of questions via classroom discussion and be given some creative homework of their own to share and analyze with the class. We will also complete a few get to know you challenges to allow the students to become more comfortable with their peers so they feel more confident in sharing and discussing their work together. Each week, students will be given their first mini assignment with details and inspiration given through a video. These mini assignments will allow them to freely explore and experiment without being overwhelmed with a final outcome. After they complete their mini assignment and share their progress, which I will give feedback on, students will be given a final assignment building on elements completed during their mini assignment. Students will then share and discuss with the class so they have the opportunity to receive feedback from their peers. This process will repeat for two additional projects so by the end of class they will have 3 new artworks to add to their portfolios. I will also be available for live video meetings to provide feedback on their assignments as needed. Here is a breakdown for how the class will work: Week 1: On Monday students will be guided through some elements of art through looking at a handful of artworks. They will be assigned to find some of their own examples which will be shared with the class and discussed over the next few days. On Wednesday students will be assigned a mini assignment. Week 2: Students will be given the main project assignment. They will have a week to work and will share their progress at the end of the week for feedback and guidance. I will be available to schedule live sessions to discuss progress if needed. Week 3: Students will return to their final assignments to make adjustments and finalize their work. On Friday they will be asked to post their final piece in the virtual classroom for critique. Week 4: We will explore a new set of elements through observation. Students will be challenged to find their own examples to share and discuss. On Wednesday their mini assignment will be given and they will share their work at the end of the week. Week 5: Students will be assigned the main project. At the end of the week students will share their progress for feedback. Week 6: Students will continue working. On Friday they will share their final piece for critique. Week 7: We will explore our last set of elements through looking and discussing art. Students will again be challenged to find their own examples to share and discuss. On Wednesday they will be given a mini assignment and they will share their progress at the end of the week. Week 8: Students will be given their final project prompt. At the end of the week students will share their progress for feedback. Week 9: Students will continue working. On Friday they will share their final pieces for critique. *Students will be able to interpret the assignments and work in any medium they want. They will be challenged to experiment and try new methods though. ** Artists of any skill are welcome to join! Students will be encouraged to interpret the projects in their own creative way and will be able to work at their own levels. I, as the teacher, will be there to challenge and push them to create in new ways and expand their artistic voice. ***Please note, while I will critique and offer feedback, I will NOT be criticizing the students work. Everything will be done in a positive light with the intention to push the student to create their best work.
Learning Goals
