What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
2-4 hours per week. Students will be expected to practice sufficiently to show noticeable growth in between every lesson. The ideal amount of practice will vary depending on the student's age, level of proficiency, and schedule, but should be at least 20-30 minutes, five days a week for newer players and generally more for players who are more developed. I can also provide a chart for keeping track of practice time if you would like!Grading
includedClass Experience
I focus on teaching trombonists the fundamental elements of musicality they need to express themselves and convey the spirit of each piece, while working to improve their trombone technique as a means of playing more expressively. I will meet you where you are now, working with any music and materials you have and recommending new materials as appropriate. During your first lesson we will take some time to go over goals and get to know each other. Material covered each week will be dictated by goals and progress of the students; depending on your age and goals, we will likely work on a combination of etudes, solo repertoire, and ensemble music. These group lessons offer an exciting opportunity for students to learn from each other! I ask that all students listen when their colleagues are playing, and I may sometimes ask for students to demonstrate something for their peers. I think you will find that you can learn at least as much from each other as you can from me!
Learning Goals
Students will learn about elements of musical style and how to execute them convincingly on the trombone.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a Master' s degree in music from Northwestern University and a Bachelor's in music from Juilliard, both specifically in trombone performance; while at Northwestern I also served as the graduate assistant teaching trombone lessons to non-majors. My primary instructors for those degrees were Michael Mulcahy (Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Joseph Alessi (New York Philharmonic). I have also been a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center and Verbier Festival Orchestra, where I received coaching from players in the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, respectively.
