Beginner Level
Hello! Thanks so much for joining my class! No experience is necessary for joining and this is a low stakes environment- just bring your lovely singing voice and a song! The main goals of this class are to grow accustomed to singing in front of others, try out new material, receive positive feedback, and learn new singing techniques each week. This class follows a very simple schedule and is designed to be both fun and educational. Each class will include a warm-up, a new singing/performance based topic, and individual performances from every student. Please have a full song prepared for each class (this does not have to be memorized). Short video clips (less than one minute) of professional performances may be shown for examples during topic discussions. UPCOMING SCHEDULE 2024- (Mondays) 1. Vocal Warm-Up. 2. Today's Singing Topic: Breathing For Singers (with breathing methods and exercises). 3. Performances and positive comments from peers. 1. Vocal Warm-Up. 2. Today's Singing Topic: Posture For Singers. 3. Performances and positive comments from peers. 1. Vocal Warm-Up. 2. Today's Singing Topic: Practice, practice, practice! 3. Performances and positive comments from peers. *If we have extra time, we can talk about an additional singing subject via a Q and A session, or sing a group song.* ***NOTE: Because this is an ongoing course and new students join sporadically, we will NOT be building on new information every class. This class also does not involve any kind of criticism from the teachers or students, as it is designed to improve confidence and gain helpful vocal techniques rather than receive improvement-based feedback in front of peers. This can create an intimidating and self-conscious environment, which is not my goal. There is a positive feedback section however, and students may reach out to me separately for written constructive feedback. *** My class follows a limited refund policy.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Lauren Layfield and thank you for your interest in my classes! I have been teaching Voice and Acting Lessons to students for over 10 years, and am so happy to be bringing what I know to Outschool.
I am happy to be offering weekly singing lessons as well as a broadway singing group class. I believe that every performer deserves to feel confident and prepared, and I am here to help give you the tools you need to put your best foot forward. In my classes, we work on healthy singing techniques, confidence, performance techniques, and much more! I teach a range of genres such as pop, rock, musical theatre, and classical voice.
I've been performing since the age of 6, and graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and a minor in Dance Studio Administration, as well as from Fordham University with a Masters in Business. I have a knowledge of music theory, dance, piano, and singing.
My goal is to deliver to my students a personalized, supportive, and educational session in which they leave class feeling more confident and equipped with the information they need to progress. I am grateful to have taught over 2,000 individual sessions with Outschool, and have learned so much about how to create, customize, and teach online singing lessons.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. I look forward to teaching you soon!
