US Grade 1 - 4
This class if for struggling readers and very similar to my regular classes just intensified into a shorter period of time. We will meet to hone in on missing skills in their reading ability 2 times per day over 3 days. It will be an intensive class focusing on letter sounds and English language rules. We will play some games and have fun while keeping our minds sharp over school breaks. Rules covered will include: Magic E Two Vowels Go Walking OI/OY OU/OW AU/AW R controlled Vowels We will begin the course focusing on knowledge of sounds and how to blend VC (vowel/consonant word) We will from there move into a more specific skill of blending CVC words. My classes are fun and engaging. I meet every student where they are at. I use many modes of teaching not just route memorizations. I focus more on visualizing the sounds and words to create a more concrete foundation. I can't wait to work with your child and help them reach their reading goals!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Kate Aiton. I have a family of 5 including my husband and three children (13,11,8). I have been an educator for over 13 years. I have a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I have taught kindergarten, special education K-4 with a wide range of student abilities, a librarian for students K-5 and an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for students K-8. I believe learning should be fun and it all starts with Phonemic Awareness. This means reading starts with understanding sounds and what we hear. I also love reading for fun. My variety of classes will offer reading intervention, comprehension work and book study groups. I hope to inspire and continue to fuel your child's passion for reading.
