Class Experience

Students will learn the notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B. They will learn how to find them on the piano and on the staff. Students will learn the rhythm for a quarter note, half note, whole note, and quarter rest. Students will be able to comfortably count a steady beat of "1-2 1-2" and "1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4" and "1-2-3 1-2-3". Students will be able to look at the music I provide for them and tell me what note they see and where that note is on the piano. Students will be able to play multiple dynamics throughout a song as well playing the notes smoothly.
I have taught piano for over ten years to children, special needs children, teenagers, and adults. I graduated with a BA in Music and Piano Pedagogy. I love teaching Piano! I am able to meet your student at their current level of learning. If your child is more advanced with Piano than this course, I will transfer them into another class with material that fits their needs.
Homework will consist of practicing between classes. The progress of the student will depend on how well they are able to practice to learn these Piano concepts. I will also assign online games/quizes that are a fun way to continue practicing Music Theory.
Materials needed are Carol Matz Level 1A Package. You can buy the Online Package or the Whole Package. The Whole Package includes a book that will be shipped to you. The Online Package contains the entire method book in PDF form. The pages can be printed as many times as needed or used on a tablet, iPad, Smart phone, or computer.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I do not assess the students.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parental Guidance is suggested for young students who may need help placing their hands on the correct key.
We will be using the course material created by Carol Matz. This is an online library of Method Books, Games, and Quizzes. Students who have already taken my Part 1 class will already have these materials.
