Hello! Whether this is your child's first time ever sitting at the piano, or your child has been tinkering on the piano by ear, we are starting from the very beginning! I expect these student's to not be able to read music or know the finger numbers associated with a specific hand position. We will also be learning note names through the physical piano/keyboard and online games. Each student will need to purchase a copy of Carol Matz level 1A to use as the lesson book. https://carolmatzpiano.com/product/level-1a-digital-only-package/ I have added several free PDF worksheets and songs that we will use in each lesson. For copyright reasons, each student must have their own copy of the lesson book. I break up the lesson to incorporate playing the piano, playing games, and practicing ear training. Here is a break through over what will be covered in the first 4 lessons: Lesson 1 -Proper positioning at the piano -Keeping a steady beat -Quarter Note -Playing the Black Keys -Assigned songs to practice Lesson 2 -Bar Lines and Measures -The Half Note and The Whole Note -Dynamics Piano and Forte -Assigned songs to practice Lesson 3 -Time Signature 4/4 -Quarter Rest -Playing notes CDEFGAB -Dynamic Mezzo Forte -Assigned songs to practice Lesson 4 -Theory of a Step, and Second Endings -Time Signature 3/4 -Dotted Half Note -Half Rest Each lesson will follow a specific lesson plan to ensure that all group members are able to continue on to Group Lessons Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 comfortably.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B. They will learn how to find them on the piano and on the staff. Students will learn the rhythm for a quarter note, half note, whole note, and quarter rest. Students will be able to comfortably count a steady beat of "1-2 1-2" and "1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4". Students will be able to look at the music I provide for them and tell me what note they see and where that note is on the piano.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parental Guidance is suggested for young students who have never sat at the piano before AND for students who are unable to read. The student will only need guidance to ensure they have found the correct key and will most likely not need guidance after week 1.
Supply List
Materials needed will be the purchase of Carol Matz level 1A https://carolmatzpiano.com/product/level-1a-digital-only-package/ AND the printed files found in the attachments for Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3, Lesson 4. This course will be covering units 1-4 found in level 1A. Parents and siblings can access the same account and use the materials repeatedly.
