Description
Class Experience
Hello! Whether this is your child's first time ever sitting at the piano, or your child has been tinkering on the piano by ear, we are starting from the very beginning! I expect these student's to not be able to read music or know the finger numbers associated with a specific hand position. We will also be learning note names through the physical piano/keyboard and online games. Each student will need to purchase a copy of Carol Matz level 1A to use as the lesson book. ...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B. They will learn how to find them on the piano and on the staff. Students will learn the rhythm for a quarter note, half note, whole note, and quarter rest. Students will be able to comfortably count a steady beat of "1-2 1-2" and "1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4". Students will be able to look at the music I provide for them and tell me what note they see and where that note is on the piano.
I have been teaching piano for over 10 years. I have taught young children to teenagers as well as adults. I am happy to be able to find a curriculum that is easily accessed online. I am passionate about piano and I love seeing young learners also become passionate about the Piano.
Homework for each class is provided online through the unit 1, 2, 3, 4. Homework will include flashcard reviews, trivia games, ear training, and practicing the pieces I provide them in class.
4 files available upon enrollmentMaterials needed will be the purchase of Carol Matz level 1A https://carolmatzpiano.com/product/level-1a-digital-only-package/ AND the printed files found in the attachments for Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3, Lesson 4. This course will be covering units 1-4 found in level 1A. Parents and siblings can access the same account and use the materials repeatedly. This course can be accessed immediately after purchase through PDF downloads so there is no wasted time waiting for a method book to be shipped to the students house. The PDF downloads can be printed out as many times as needed or accessed through a tablet, iPhone, iPad, or computer.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I do not provide letter grades but I do congratulate each student at the end of this course of 1A Part 1. I will encourage the students to enroll in level 1A Part 2 and continue Piano Lessons with me.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Parental Guidance is suggested for young students who have never sat at the piano before AND for students who are unable to read. The student will only need guidance to ensure they have found the correct key and will most likely not need guidance after week 1.
We will be using the online course material written by Carol Matz. This website allows for the purchase of the method book as either a PDF or mailed to the students home. Materials can be used with multiple siblings. These materials include the online games, quizzes, and flash cards. This source provides a one-stop-shop for all of the material the student will need to learn the Piano in one place. I will be using this method book for all of my group lessons. https://carolmatzpiano.com/course/level-1-a/
