Class Experience

The book is helpful, but not necessary for the first meeting. It becomes necessary for practice with week 2.
If your learner is outside of the age range for this class, please contact the instructor. I may be setting up another session for a different age group if there is interest.
If you school is back in session before the end of the session, your learner can watch recordings and continue learning...or we may change the time of the class.

Students will learn the basics of piano and work their way through the first half of the Piano Adventures Primer Level Lesson Book in this 8 week long course.

Students do not need any previous music experience They do need a keyboard or piano while in class and to practice assignments during the week. Every week, students will have assigned songs to practice and need to be prepared to play them all for the class. Each students may not play every song, but needs to be ready to play any song requested from the assignments. Each class is scheduled for 45 minutes, but may be slightly longer or shorter (5 minutes either way) depending on the number of students enrolled. The class will include the teacher demonstrating playing, students playing for each other/the teacher, some concepts will be taught with visuals others with games. The basic schedule will be adhered to, but may have some slight adjustments based off of student comprehension.

Each week indicates new concepts and there will be songs to practice using these concepts.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have played piano since I was four years old and earned a BA in music in 2009. I have been teaching piano lessons since 2008, and immediately fell in love with helping students grow musically and as people. I seek to help my students become independent musicians as soon as possible by teaching music reading and music theory. I see my role as teaching the thought processes to get from looking at a page full of lines and dots to translate that to music at the piano/keyboard. I love games, so try to find ways to incorporate games into the learning environment. Students enjoy a relaxed environment where they can experiment and ask questions without fear of being reprimanded for not knowing or making mistakes, while at the same time learning how to handle and correct mistakes.

In June 2022, I completed by masters degree in clinical nutrition and am expanding out to helping students explore the elements of a healthy lifestyle, specifically encouraging trying a variety of foods that support health.

As the owner of Integrated Harmonies, I also offer telehealth nutrition care and education to people of all ages.
