If you already have some familiarity with the Hebrew alphabet - it's time to learn to read Hebrew!

Class experience

• Students will complete a quick review of the names and sounds of the entire Hebrew alphabet, including including final forms and phonemes
• Students will be introduced to five of the most commonly used letters of the Hebrew alphabet (Shin, Bet, Tav, Dalet and Gimmel)
•	Students will begin to practice writing Shin, Bet, Tav, Dalet and Gimmel in block print
•	Students will have a chance to casually interact with peers around a shared learning goal
•	Students will practice using their listening and Hebrew reading skills
I have an MA in Jewish Studies from the University of Indiana-Bloomington, and have completed several other academic Jewish Studies and Religious Studies classes, at the graduate level. This includes more than two years of Biblical Hebrew, as well as several classes in Modern Hebrew.

As a former Hebrew school teacher and a current Outschool teacher, I have helped hundreds of students develop and improve their Hebrew reading skills, starting with the Hebrew alphabet. I am not a native speaker of Modern Hebrew, and am not able to teach advanced Hebrew grammar, which will not be covered in this course.
Homework Offered
Students will be asked to review the letters, vowels and keywords learned in class between classes, and will also have one or two short exercises from the book to complete as homework. Students who are less familiar with the Hebrew alphabet can also take my ongoing weekly Learn the Hebrew Alphabet class for review and/or to help keep the material fresh.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal assessment/checking in with the students as we go.
Grades Offered
Students will be asked to purchase a textbook at a cost of less than $20 USD. Students should also bring a pencil and eraser to class.
Like all classes on the Outschool platform, this is a secular (non-religious) class. No religious or cultural identification of any kind is expected, required, nor assumed of or by any student participating in this class. All students are welcome.
Textbook information will be provided upon registration.
