US Grade 4 - 5
This class features a group of 5 working words, 4 fun words, and 2 challenges word each class that will help expand your student's vocabulary. A strong vocabulary will increase reading comprehension and test taking skills by strengthening their background knowledge. This class is perfect for all levels and especially ESL learners. Scaffolding will take place to either increase or decrease the number of words in a class if necessary. We will look at: Word Origin - Who Am I? Chunks & Sounds - Say What? Define Me/Opposite Me/Twin Me Write Me Practice Me Create Me This class will use the dictionary, whiteboard examples and explanations, and slide presentations. We will examine the word, the pronunciation, the meaning and possible multiple meanings, synonyms, antonyms, origins, and more. There will be challenges and creative opportunities to expand on a word (student choice) each week to display in the classroom. Vocabulary growth is a key to all areas of communication. But it can and should be fun and creative too. Weekly challenges will be given to use a word or find one in use. Students will be challenged to look for these words each week in their daily lives whether that be writing, reading, or in conversation.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their vocabulary. This will improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Vocabulary growth will assist in all areas of daily life and assist with academic achievement.
