This class is intended to pique the interest of students in the area of science through a variety of topics.Through direct instruction, the student will be introduced to a variety of unique insects, studying their habitat and characteristics. Students will also learn about the fascinating world of bacteria. Class will have the opportunity to ask questions and give input, and will stay engaged through learning activities, such as KWL charts and worksheets. Week 1: We will explore the amazing world of insects, learning specifically about my little friend, Phasmatodea, the walking stick. We will discuss why many of us are squeamish around bugs, and what can we do to lessen our fears of our creepy crawly friends. We will also take a look at other unique insects up close and personal. Week 2: We will discuss entomophagy, the practice of eating bugs. High in protein and nutrients, insects are a viable source of food, so why aren't we eating them? We will also look to the future and discuss whether people will someday rely on bugs as a valued food source. Week 3: We will learn about bacteria, how it affects us, harms us, but also helps us! We will dive into the amazing world of decomposers. This class will engage in an experiment, make predictions and learn how they can conduct their own experiment. Week 4: This final class will wrap up our investigation of bacteria. We will review our predictions, make observations and assess the outcome of our previous week's experiments. Finally, we will discuss the importance of washing hands to prevent the spread of germs.

Students will also explore the intricate world of bacteria, learn about its importance in our world, and understand how bacteria spreads and grows.

Parental Guidance
Please be aware of your kid's sensitivity level. If your child is squeamish to insects and discussion of bodily functions, your child should not join us.
