Class Experience

Welcome to the Groovy Kids Club! My name is Ms. Yvonne and I'm looking forward to moving and grooving with your learners.

In this ongoing class, the students will learn about Ori from the Tahitian Islands and Hula from the Hawaiian Islands. There are various similarities as well as differences between the two styles. I try to demonstrate a few of the obvious ones during our lessons.

We will always start the class with a time-in. The time-in is a moment for everyone to bring their attention and focus to our class by stretching, breathing, and warming up.

Each week we will learn new basic movements and then put together a new short choreography. The duration of the warm-up and choreography time may vary due to student participation. The length of the routine may vary depending on the ability of the majority to pick up choreography.

All music is age-appropriate and mostly consists of drum beats. All choreography is created by me.

My teaching style is very intuitive. I try my best to read the energy and comprehension levels of the students. I adjust my lessons according to that reading. Overall, I try my best to make the lessons fun and interesting. I include games and freestyle dance sessions.

During class, students will be muted. This helps with the sound quality and for the video to always be on the teacher so everyone can view the steps at all times. If there is a question, the student can always raise their hand and I will unmute the student or type in their question in the chat area. Towards the end of class, they’re welcome to ask questions.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Make sure to have enough space to move around in a safe environment. Please have the camera showing the learner's full body so that I can give feedback about legs/feet.
Supply List
Students are asked to wear clothing comfortable to move in. For example shorts, leggings, and t-shirts, etc. Ideally, nothing too baggy as it will be difficult to see the motions.

They will need a sarong/pareo/scarf. This can be any lightweight fabric they can use to tie around their hips. I will demonstrate how to tie them in our first lesson.

Please keep an easy access water bottle nearby during class. You can count on us taking quick sips in between activities.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
