Welcome to the Groovy Kids Club! My name is Ms. Yvonne and I'm looking forward to moving and grooving with your learners. Students will learn basic capoeira theory & fundamental moves. They will understand the concept of a roda and how to play inside one. In addition to learning the physical aspects of the game, they'll also learn a few Portuguese words.
I lived in Bahia, Brasil for 5 years and speak Brazilian Portuguese semi-fluently. I studied Capoeira with the group Filhos de Zumbi in Itacaré and received my first cord in 2012. I am a 600 hr Registered Yoga Teacher with certification in Yoga for Children & Teens.
Students are asked to wear clothing comfortable to move in. For example joggers, leggings, t-shirts, etc. Ideally, nothing too baggy as it will be difficult to see the motions. T-shirts should be fitted or tucked into pants to avoid shirts coming up during inversions. Preferably no dresses or skirts unless there are appropriate shorts underneath. Please keep an easy-access water bottle nearby during class. Please have an open space of approximately 6 X 8 ft on the floor for the learners to move around freely. I recommend a carpeted area, yoga mat, or gymnastics mat.
