Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary as they read and discuss the novel. They will socialize with classmates about what they are reading.
I have been teaching middle school Reading and Language Arts for more than 18 years. I specialize in reading skills/strategies and working with students at their own individual levels.
Each week students will be required to read the assigned chapters BEFORE class to prepare for the next meeting. PRIOR to meeting (Week 1) • Read chapters 1-3 PRIOR to meeting (Week 2) • Read chapters 4-7 PRIOR to meeting (Week 3) • Read chapters 8-11 PRIOR to meeting (Week 4) • Read chapters 12-14 PRIOR to meeting (Week 5) • Read chapters 15-18 PRIOR to meeting (Week 6) • Read chapters 19-22 PRIOR to meeting (Week 7) • Read chapters 23-25 PRIOR to meeting (Week 8) • Read chapters 26-27
Students will need a copy of the novel we will be discussing during class. They will also need a pencil and paper to use during class. Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Some of the suspense is built through multiple battles with scary creatures and some blood/gore is mentioned. However, the book itself does indicate that violence should be avoided except in a last resort situation.
