When a student takes this class they can expect a fun and interactive journey through the story of how Hercules faced off against the Nemean Lion. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of some of Hercules' exploits. Images and some video will be shared to help bring the story to life and as the storyteller, my goal will be to use my theatrical and voice-artist background to make the tale memorable. Throughout, students will be encouraged to ask questions and will also be posed questions to test their listening and comprehension skills. Specifically, we will learn about Hercules murdering his family while under the influence of Hera, his trip to Delphi to consult the oracle of Apollo, being tasked to serve King Eurystheus, then finally his battle with the Nemean Lion.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about Hercules, Eurystheus, Apollo, Typhon, and Selene with a focus on Hercules. Students will be encouraged to speak, ask questions, and be questioned themselves with a focus on comprehension skills and critical thinking.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
In this section, students will learn of how Hercules is driven mad by Hera and murders his own children and some of his brother's children. This is a necessary part of the story that is the impetus for the labors that are set forth before him.
