Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
In this 6-week online course we will read six famous myths from Usborne's Illustrated Greek Myths book, participate in interactive games and questions and draw our favourite part of the story each week! Each story will take 25 minutes to read out loud (you do not need a copy of the book as I will hold it up). Following the story there will be 15 minutes of discussion, interactive quiz questions and an opportunity for every child to draw their favourite character or scene from the story. No prior experience needed, all are welcome. Please bring a piece of paper and some colour pens to class!

Week 1: Pegasus: Learn about the wonderful story of Pegasus, the flying white horse born from Medusa's neck, and the hero Bellerophon who kills the Chimera monster with the help of his flying steed! We will watch a Ted-ed video on the myth, have a Q&A time and end with some quiet drawing time.

Week 2: The Minotaur: Learn about the maze created by the master inventor Daedalus and the Minotaur monster who lives in its depths. Follow Theseus, the prince of Athens, as he successfully journeys to Crete and slays the monster. We will watch a video on the myth, have a Q&A time and end with some quiet drawing time.

Week 3: The Twelve Tasks of Heracles: Follow the adventures of the most famous Greek hero to have ever existed and watch an exciting gamified Ted-ed video on his exploits while you draw your favourite monster!

Week 4: Perseus and the Gorgon: Learn about Medusa, the cursed Gorgon, who can turn men to stone and have a go at drawing her yourself!

Week 5: The Trojan Horse: Learn about this story from Homer's famous epic the Illiad, watch some exciting video clips, participate in some comprehension questions and draw the Trojan Horse!

Week 6: The Odyssey: Let's end our 6-week journey by learning about poor Odysseus's long 8-year journey back home to Ithaca and bring some paper to draw your own cyclops monster!
