Class Experience
Welcome to Monster Myths! Love the monsters and creatures in the Hero stories? Want to know more about them? This is the class for you! In this class we will learn about the origins and stories of 17 different monsters and creatures. Below is the breakdown of the monsters of the week and what type of activity we will do. Week One: Typhon and Echidna, the Monster Parents. This week we will have an introductory discussion. Week Two: Graea and Gorgons (Think Medusa!). There will be a Kahoot!...
Students will learn about a variety of Greek monsters and creatures.
I have been learning about Greek Myths my entire life and went to Greece for an extended period of time to learn even more.
There are activities to complete each week.
There are several art activities. Most can be completed with paper and drawing utensils.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class does discuss monsters, and the battles they get into with heroes. Most of them do not survive the encounter.
Stories of the monsters are pulled from the works of: Hesiod, Homer, and Virgil, all ancient greek writers. Students are welcome to share the portrayal of the monsters in more modern adaptations (Like Percy Jackson), but I don't teach from them.
