In this class, students learn to become great writers by studying the Great Writing series by National Geographic. Students practice grammar in the Foundations book. Topics include: prepositions, articles, writing compound and complex sentences, the simple past and present progressive tense, and more. Students practice writing great sentences in Book 1. Topics include: topic sentences, supporting sentences, concluding sentences, and more. Students practice writing great paragraphs in Book 2. Topics include: definition paragraphs, process paragraphs, opinion paragraphs, and more. Students practice writing great essays in Book 3. Students learn creative writing and how to write specific types of essays including: cause effect essays, problem solution essays, comparison essays, and more. Students practice writing more types of great essays in Book 4. Topics include: argument essays, reaction essays, and more. Finally, in Book 5, students practice research based writing.
