Let's celebrate some fantastic women from the past. Together we will learn about some women in the fields of space travel, performance arts, environmental conservation and more. During this class, students will get the opportunity to learn about some amazing women from around the world. In each class, students will learn about a number of different women. I have a PhD in history and am a qualified primary school teacher in the UK. I have taught history to learners from the age of 3 up to the postgraduate level. My PhD included a significant component of gender studies and I have published academic work on the history of girls and young women. I have taught about gender to children of all ages.
At times, we will be talking about prejudice and stereotypes, in particular, about how women have been perceived in the past. I will ensure that this is presented in an age appropriate way by saying that 'in the past, some people thought that women weren't able to do the things that men can do'. Please ensure that you and your learner are comfortable talking about discrimination.
