Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Learners will examine the life and inspirations of arguably one of the most famous authors in history, Mary Shelley. They will take a look at her tragic life and learn how she viewed the character that she created. We will discuss and examine the legacy that has been built upon the misconceptions of her work.
I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.
Each week, learners will have several options for homework. Some weeks, there will be short readings, short videos to watch on Youtube, possible movies to watch and review, and short 1-2 paragraph research papers. Learners will engage with their classmates by participating in weekly short story brain sessions where we take different characters that are discussed and create a narrative.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Mary Shelley led a very unique life, even for the time period. We will be covering her mother, Mary Woolstonecraft, who had attempted suicide at a young age, Mary's own obsession with death, as well as pregnancy out of wedlock. We will also be discussing her husbands promiscuous behavior and the social and cultural norms of the time. Mary had a life full of tragedy and loss. All discussions will be at an age appropriate level.
