Homework
1 hour per week. Each will there will be two assignments. The first is a list of 3-7 discussion questions. These are to be answered by the students in their own words based on their thoughts and opinions. The second assignment is a list of 3-5 homework projects. Students are to choose 1 each week that they find interesting. These could be short research papers (1 page), a short video to watch and review, or a project. During weeks 5 and 6 we will be doing 2 different experiments. The first is an observation like Jane did. The second is to follow the scientific method. We will then compare the two.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
In this class we will not only explore the life and many contributions of Jane Goodall, but also explore the history of animal conservation from the 1800’s, how our perception of animal behavior has changed, the culture and society surrounding the Institute for Research in Tanzania, and explore chimpanzee behavior. We will also conduct two different projects - an observation "Jane" style (where we simply observe), then by following the scientific method. Week 1 – Conservation and animal studies from 1800-1950’s. Week 2 – Jane Goodall's early life – her childhood and influences Week 3 – Meeting Dr. Leakey and working as a secretary Week 4 – Brief history of the Tanzania region, the culture and attitudes towards animals Week 5 – Her first project and the establishment of the site Week 6- First observation – what she learned and how the world reacted Week 7- Her return to England, earning her Doctorate in Ethology, and work with other animals Week 8 - The Jane Goodall Institute for Research and the state of animal conservation today. Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) - -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page. - Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. - In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. - Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom. -I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class. - Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic. -Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions. Learning Goals
Students will learn about the history of conservation, Jane's childhood and influences, the importance of Dr. Leakey's discoveries, the difference between Jane's method of observation and the scientific method, and facts about chimpanzees.

This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
