What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each Tuesday, I will post to the classroom a list of 3-7 questions due the following Saturday. There will also be a list of 2-5 research topics or projects, and each student will choose two that interests them. Answers for the research topics only have to be a paragraph or two. This is also due Saturday of each week. Homework can either be sent through the communication function of Outschool (email) or posted on the classroom page. Each project is be written clearly and with any references noted.

Who was the incredible and unstoppable Amelia Earhart? Come and join us as we explore her childhood, career, and the many different theories around her disappearance. 

In this class, we will be learning about the amazing life and career of Amelia Earhart. We will discuss her inspiration, her achievements, and how the world reacted to her. 


Week 1 - A look at her childhood and family; Life during WWI
Week 2 - Getting her pilots license; breaking national records
Week 3- Her final flight and disappearance; Different theories as to what happened to her and who is still looking for her today
Week 4 - The impact of her life; The Ninety-Nines; Women in aviation after Amelia's disappearance


Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic.

Parental Guidance
We will be discussing the disappearance and death of Amelia. There will also be some talk about sexism, as she broke many gender barriers. This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.
