Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This class will explore the shipwrecks of the Great Lakes. Each week will focus on a different Great Lake and some of the famous (and not so famous) shipwrecks that occurred in each lake.  

Week 1: Lake Huron Wrecks 
       -SS Daniel J. Morrell
       -Great Lakes Storm of 1913 Wrecks
       -True North II

Week 2: Lake Erie
       -PS Anthony Wayne
       -The Margaret Olwill
       -SS GP Griffith

Week 3: Lake Michigan
       -SS Henry Cort
       -Alvin Clark
       -Lady Elgin
       -SM UC-97

Week 4: Lake Superior
       -SS Edmund Fitzgerald
       -SS Thomas Wilson
       -Invincible 
       -Ottawa

Week 5:  Lake Ontario.  
      -HMS Speedy
      -SS Noronic
      -USS Hamilton
      -Wolfe Islander 2

Each week, we will explore the history of the aforementioned shipwrecks via a powerpoint presentation accompanied by class discussion and short video clips that are relevant to the weekly content.

Lesson 1:
Lake Huron
 Wrecks on Lake Huron, including the Daniel J. Morrell

 Wrecks including the SS GP Griffith, and the Margaret Olwill

Lesson 3:
Lake Michigan
 Wrecks such as the Alvin Clark, the Lady Elgin, and the SS Henry Cort

 This course will explore several small wrecks, and then focus on the Edmund Fitzgerald

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Many of the shipwrecks we will discuss in class did involve a loss of life. The human losses will not be focused on, and it will be presented in a historically contextualized format.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
