This class will cover great works of literature from the ancient Greeks to Middle English. Students will decode the stories by looking at themes, elements, structure, historical context and literary devices such as similes and metaphors. This class is discussion based and the goal will be to tackle the enormous questions that these texts offer. My goal is that these texts and our discussion will cultivate a sense of wonder and will propel the student forward to be a lifelong learner and a critical thinker. The class will mostly be discussion based with ample opportunities for students to share their opinions. We may occasionally view videos to help clarify historical context and literary devices. Written and graded assignments are optional
